The UnitedBuilt Choice 5406-P-16 is a external-hex pipe plug with a 1" male NPTF connection.
This external-hex plug closes a compatible female tapered pipe opening when the equipment design calls for that port to be unused. Its male NPTF connection is a pipe thread, not an SAE O-ring boss connection. Match the thread form and nominal size before installing a replacement.
The external hex provides a wrenching surface for installation and removal. This form differs from a socket or internal-hex plug, which uses a tool inside the head. Check the available clearance around the port and choose the correct tool before starting work; no wrench size is specified here.
| Feature | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Male NPTF plug | Closes a compatible female pipe port that is not being used. |
| External hex head | Provides wrench access for installation and later removal. |

A plug can retain pressurized fluid behind the connection, so do not loosen it to check whether the circuit is safe. Follow the equipment’s isolation and pressure-release procedure first. Inspect the female port and plug threads for damage or contamination, then use the actual supplier’s tightening and sealant instructions.
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Port thread | Confirm a compatible 1-inch female pipe port for the 1-11.5 male NPTF thread. |
| Plug style | Select the external-hex 5406-P form, not an internal-hex plug or reducing bushing. |
| Permitted closure | Confirm the equipment design allows this port to be closed; do not obstruct a required vent or safety function. |
| Safe service | Isolate and fully depressurize the circuit before installing or removing the plug. |
Confirm the supplied part’s pressure and temperature limits, material compatibility and suitability for the operating fluid before installation. Connection size alone does not establish a service rating. Isolate and fully depressurize the circuit before work, and follow the equipment and fitting supplier’s installation procedure.
