The Gruvlok AE7721-3 grooved butterfly valve combines an epoxy-coated ductile iron body, a Grade E EPDM-encapsulated ductile iron disc and a 10-position lever-lock operator. Choose the 3-, 4-, 5- or 6-inch nominal size to match your grooved piping. The disc has an iron core with EPDM encapsulation; it is not a solid EPDM disc.
This configuration provides local manual operation for compatible water and other approved EPDM services. Each size uses the same operator and disc-material configuration, but has its own manufacturer part number. Select AE7721-3 when you need the lever-operated valve, rather than a gear-operated model or a valve supplied without an operator.
The lever-lock arrangement offers ten positions for manual valve adjustment. A zero-backlash stem-to-disc connection transfers operator movement directly to the disc, while the spherical seat bore maintains consistent disc-to-seat loading through its travel. The one-piece body includes an integral operator mounting base.
For the sizes offered here, the closed valve provides bubble-tight sealing from full vacuum to 300 psi. The valve is also rated for dead-end service at 300 psi. These valve ratings do not establish the rating of the complete piping assembly; the connections and other system components must be suitable for the application.
| Feature | Benefit |
|---|---|
| 10-position lever lock | Manual operation with defined lever positions. |
| Zero-backlash stem connection | Direct movement between the stem and disc. |
| Secondary stem seal | Provides a separate lubrication chamber at the stem. |

Nominal valve size is not the same as pipe outside diameter. Match both the selected size and the mating grooved pipe before ordering. The manufacturer part numbers below specify the epoxy-body, EPDM-disc, 10-position lever configuration.
| Nominal valve size | Manufacturer part and mating pipe OD |
|---|---|
| 3 in | 7005011844; 3.500 in pipe OD |
| 4 in | 7005011846; 4.500 in pipe OD |
| 5 in | 7005011848; 5.563 in pipe OD |
| 6 in | 7005011850; 6.625 in pipe OD |
Grade E EPDM is recommended for water, oil-free air and selected dilute acid, alkali and chemical services. This does not mean it suits every chemical or concentration. Check the fluid, temperature and pressure together before choosing the valve, and follow the applicable installation instructions for the grooved joints.
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Fluid and temperature | Verify EPDM compatibility; do not select this version for petroleum service. |
| Pipe and coupling selection | Match nominal size, pipe OD, groove dimensions and the required joint pressure rating. |
| Operator clearance | Allow room to move the lever and access its locking positions. |
| Installation components | The selection is the valve with lever-lock operator. Confirm the mating couplings and gaskets needed separately. |
| Locking hardware | A padlock or lockout device is not supplied with the valve; confirm any required locking hardware separately. |
